Birds, Bees and Flowers

It's another tablecaping challenge over at Cuisine Kathleen's for Let's Dish!!

As soon as I read about the challenge, I knew which place mats, napkins and napkin rings I would be using. I added my cute little bird candles and my magnolia bowls and plates.

I found the napkin rings at an estate sale years ago.  I'm searching for the right bee glasses for me.

I found this jar at a flea market that is near my parent's house several years ago.  I think it is time to visit it again again soon.
One of my friends sent me these cute little bird candles for Christmas.  I'm excited to use them now.

The plates and bowls were made by Homer Laughlin China company which the same maker of Fiesta.  You know I had to add some Fiesta.

I can't wait to see what everyone else came up with!!

A Spring Table

In an effort to cheer myself up from being sick with a sinus infection and bronchitis, I used a new to me cloth with bright colors. The Fiesta colors are Marigold, Lemongrass, Shamrock and White.

I walked the hubby through to make a roast. It was good but it was better when we shredded it to make flautas which we had for dinner tonight.
I hope Spring is really making its way to you in your part of the country.  We have warmed up to the 80's but with lots of wind and dust(more like dirt).
I will be joining Cuisine Kathleen for Let's Dish.  Be sure to stop by and comment on all the other participants.

ASARCO Smoke Stack Demolition

Today was a very sad day for me as two of El Paso's landmarks were demolished. They were two smoke stacks at what once was the ASARCO copper smelter plant.  The plant closed for good in 2009.  It had been trying to reopen but environmentalist group kept them from getting their permit.  It would have created about 500 well paying jobs. I don't want to debate the pros and cons here but the plant was here first and it helped make this city. Four generations of my family worked there including my grandfather, uncle, cousin and his son. There is another copper plant in the city that is still in operation as well as an oil plant both around the corner from my parent's home.  There are hazardous/environmentally unfriendly jobs everywhere.

There was a town on the plant site that my mom lived in with her family when my grandfather worked there. My mom was born in that town called Smeltertown. She used to talk about it all the time. She said there was a smoke stack (not the ones that  came down) that used to give great shade during the summer. She would talk about walking down the mountain to the company store. They were moved off the plant site to make room for I-10 freeway.  That is what I remember my mom telling me.

I think what makes it worse for me is that I know my mom would be so upset if she knew they stacks had come down.  They made El Paso for her as for many people. It made me miss my mom the way she was before this awful disease. I miss talking, cooking and shopping with her.

Too much emotion to keep inside. I cried all morning.  I didn't want to link any pictures but if you are interested, can go to the El Paso Times website for pictures.

A few more tables

With Mardi Gras being so close to Valentine's Day, it was hard for me to post two tables.
This was the table I set for Valentine's Day. Although, we did not eat here that day.  We went to one of our favorite Mexican restaurants because it is also the birthday of the beautiful man that runs the register.  We have been friends with him for about 17 years. He used to work at restaurant that my parent's used to hang out and take all the people from out of town to.  After many years of talking to Manny and watching how he was with kids, I remembered that I used to follow him as a child.  No wonder we got along when we met again.  Several customers take him a cake and we always get a piece.

One of my good friends gave me the heart salt and pepper holders.

My friend sent me the owl salt and pepper shakers for Valentine's Day so of course I had to tablescape with them.  The cloth is Leacock. I found new in the package at the thrift store.  I love that store.  I used Fiesta in Lemongrass, Black and Shamrock.

This was the hubby's lunch.
This is mine.  I wanted tacos.

For the next table, I was inspired by someone on Facebook.

I had been trying to set all pink tables in February with the exception of the green one above.  I don't know what happened to all the other pictures.

I have started to Spring table but I am battling a sinus infection and bronchitis.  I have missed work this whole week.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful day!
